Aspen Publishes 2023 Sustainability Report

Aspen News, Sustainability

We are pleased to publish our 2023 Sustainability Report, focusing on strengthening the building blocks we have created and refining our commitment to a long-term strategy. There are many definitions of Sustainability in business today. For Aspen, Sustainability covers every aspect of who we are and what we do and is deeply embedded in our core values and behaviors. It is about helping our clients when they need us, delivering for our shareholders, supporting our communities, and creating a nurturing, diverse and inclusive working environment for our colleagues.

In 2023, we established dedicated ESG roles in Governance and Investments and formed a Sustainability Committee, which reports to our Board of Directors. We expanded our greenhouse gas emission measurements to scope 3 Purchased Goods and Services and established a renewable energy partnership for an innovative insurance product that promotes resilient solar asset design.

We also made significant and new ESG/Sustainability investments, including a $55m commitment to energy transition initiatives and a £7m commitment to the Big Issue Invest Social Enterprise Debt fund. And, as a co-founder of Blue Marble Microinsurance, we helped to expand protection to the underserved, bridging the protection gap for over 300,000 beneficiaries in eight developing countries – up 200% from 2022.

Jonny Atkinson, Group Chief Business Development Officer and Sustainability Committee Chair, said: “Our Sustainability philosophy closely aligns with our core values and cultural work that we began in earnest in early 2019 and have been refining since. These efforts demand accountability and transparency – starting with our executive leadership – and are strongly supported by our employees. We must continue to be thoughtful, agile, open minded, able to adapt, pragmatic and client considerate to get this right.”
